What Do We Report On?
We offer 3 levels of Caravan and Motorhome Pre-Purchase Inspections covering all aspects of the vehicle from the roof to under the floor!
We Start High Up on The Roof
All CARACHECK inspections start on the roof. The roof is a critical area of caravans and motorhomes for a number of reasons, and it's also responsible for many issues, such as water ingress and leaks!
- Because they're up high, roofs are often overlooked and neglected by owners.
- Roofs are joined with silicone, and silicone deteriorates with time, particularly with New Zealand's harsh UV, which breaks it down further.
- Roofs are often where leaks start, with water from rainfall flowing into the caravan.
At CARACHECK, we are experts in roofs thanks to our background in roof repair. We know exactly where to look and what to look for.

High up on a roof luton on a 2023 (!) motorhome. Silicone is missing, and screws are exposed. An expensive repair waiting to happen on a near-new $150,000 motorhome. Thankfully, the buyers engaged CARACHECK for their pre-purchase inspection, and we know a lot about roofs!
Then We Go Down Low Underneath
All CARACHECK inspections go under the vehicle. Over the last 24 months, exterior underflooring has become a major concern in New Zealand, to the point that VTNZ does not issue WOFs or COFs for affected vehicles. Again, thanks to our background in repairing these floor issues, we know exactly where to look and how to identify issues.

External floor rot located under caravans and motorhomes can be very difficult to spot. The affected areas, however, are very soft to the touch and, if left unrepaired, can lead to costly repairs. VTNZ are failing WOFs and COFs with these types of rotten floors.
Moisture Tests Backed With Thermographic Imaging Cameras
All CARACHECK pre-purchase inspections include moisture checks. Why is moisture such an issue, and how does it occur? A breakdown of silicone on the roof and around the windows is a contributing factor, combined with New Zealand's harsh UV, breaking down the silicone, and winding, twisting roads, contributing further to loosening joints and gaps.
Moisture meters are one indication of issues; however, they can be inaccurate and misleading, as some materials embedded behind walls and ceilings can trigger them. We back up any moisture meter alerts with expensive thermographic imaging equipment.

The darker blue areas indicate water/moisture, and while it can be found anywhere inside a motorhome or caravan, it's not uncommon around hatches, vents and windows. CARACHECK use the latest moisture detectors and thermal imaging cameras.
